Sustainably Sourced wood

Sustainability is a critical factor in our products, therefore we only use sustainable wood in our products that is sourced from government approved sources.

All of our furniture is handcrafted by master artisans using traditional techniques, thus ensuring that skills are kept alive.

Types of Wood:

The majority of our furniture is handcrafted from the very best quality sustainably sourced Mango Wood or reclaimed wood.

All of the mango wood is sourced from government approved forests that are set up for the harvesting of mango fruit and once the produce life of the tree is over it is then felled.

Quality is Paramount, we NEVER cut corners

All our artists and small scale producers are overseen by highly skilled professionals from both our UK and India sister company to ensure that the design, manufacturing and finish of all our furniture is kept to the same high standard. We check personally check every element of manufacturing  and shipping of every piece of furniture.

Every piece of furniture is unique

All of our furniture has a very distinct unique character lovingly handcrafted. We don’t hide irregularity in our furniture that is what gives our furniture it`s unique and distinctive character.

The concept for Sabirian was founded by Ian Jones (CEO) in 2015 who joined and partnered with Community Action Isle of Wight in order to become a not for profit community interest company in August 2017.

Sabirian is proud to be 100% charity owned by Community Action Isle of Wight (IW), an independent, non-political, non-religious UK charity which works to improve the lives and build thriving communities by supporting the 1,500 or more voluntary and community organisations that work so hard for the benefit of the Island (Isle of Wight) and its residents.

Sabirian and Community Action IW believes in the strength and ability of communities, in charitable endeavour, in voluntary action and in not for profit motives.

Both Sabirian and Community Action IW aim to support the maintenance and development of community amenities and services, to help build thriving communities where people get involved, help each other, and have access to the services they need.

The underlying ethos behind Sabirian is to create a social brand of design led, ethically produced, high quality fair trade products that deliver detail and affordable style with a strong ethical policy at its core.

We want to make a positive impact on people’s lives, work towards protecting the planet and build strong communities.

We deliver all of our customers (both retail and wholesale) with premium quality products that are fairly traded, ethically produced, manufactured and sourced from small-scale producers and artisans whilst supporting handicraft communities through a trade rather than aid model.

We believe through our customers buying power, we can help to change the world for the better by shopping with conscience.

Sabirian is built on and supported by 3 pillars:

  • Fair Trade  / ethical trading (accreditation by BAFTS in application)

  • Employment support and work experience for the underemployed

  • Voluntary / Charity support

By having a very strong ethical policy at its core, we believe, by putting people first, we can create a socially and just business that is successful and supports the voluntary / charity sector.

Sabirian C.I.C. is engaged actively in supporting producers, raising awareness and campaigning for changes in the rules and practices of conventional international trade
